Refund Policy

Refund and Cancellation Policy

At Lindsey McLaren Artist, every artwork — whether a bespoke commission, original oil painting, or fine art print - is created or selected with care. My goal is that you feel reassured and delighted with your purchase.

Because each piece is unique, the policies below set out how refunds, cancellations, and returns are handled fairly while protecting the time, materials, and one-of-a-kind nature of the work.

1.  Original Oil Paintings (Ready-Made Artwork)

Original paintings purchased directly from the website or studio (not custom commissions) are subject to the following return policy:

  • Final Sale: All sales of ready-made original artwork are generally considered final.

  • Returns/Exchanges: If you are not satisfied with your original artwork, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for exchange or studio credit only. The Client is responsible for all return shipping costs, tracking, and insurance, and the artwork must be returned in perfect, undamaged condition. Original delivery fees are not refundable.

Refunds on Fine Art Prints

2. Fine Art Prints

  • Fine art prints may be returned within 14 days of delivery.

  • Prints must be returned in their original condition and packaging to qualify for a refund.

  • The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs.

  • A full refund for the cost of the print will be issued once the return is received and inspected.

  • Delivery is free within the UK for prints.

  • International Orders: Customers outside the UK will be responsible for shipping fees and any customs charges (these are non-refundable).

3.  Commissioned Portraits (Custom Work)

A commissioned portrait is a one-of-a-kind artwork, created just for you, so cannot be resold. Because of the time, care, and materials involved, commissions follow a slightly different refund policy than originals or prints.

Payment & Deposit

  • A 50% deposit secures your place in my schedule and allows me to begin work.

  • This deposit covers preparation time, materials, and the initial creative work.

  • The remaining 50% balance (plus shipping, if applicable) is due once the painting is finished and approved, before shipping.

Cancellations & Refunds

  • You may cancel within 24 hours of booking (after paying your deposit and confirming details). A refund will be issued, minus a £25 administrative fee.

  • After this 24-hour period, the deposit is non-refundable, as work and materials will already be underway.

  • If, for any reason, I am unable to complete the commission (e.g., illness, emergency), you will receive a full refund, including your deposit.

Revisions & Approval

  • Sketch Approval (Composition Lock-In): You’ll receive a sketch or mock-up to confirm pose, crop, and layout before any paint is applied. One round of revisions is included here.

  • During Painting: To preserve the integrity of my loose, expressive oil painting style, in-progress photos aren’t shared — the work changes dramatically before completion.

  • Final Viewing: A high-resolution photo of the finished portrait will be sent for approval. One round of minor tweaks (such as subtle highlight or feature refinements) is included.

  • Limits on Revisions: Fundamental changes (e.g., altering poses, changing the background, or shifting style) aren’t possible at this stage. You are commissioning me based on my style.

Final Acceptance:

  • The portrait must be approved before shipping.

  • Once the final 50% balance is paid and the artwork is dispatched, no refunds can be issued.

* Legal Note: UK Law on Commissions (Bespoke Work)

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, the 14-day “cooling-off” period does not apply to bespoke goods made to order. This includes all commissioned portraits under this policy.

4. Shipping, Delivery & Damage

Damage in Transit

  • Originals & Commissions: In the unlikely event that your artwork arrives damaged, you must notify the artist within 48 hours of delivery and provide clear photographs of both the packaging and the artwork. The artist will initiate an insurance claim and arrange for either a repair, a replacement (for commissions), or a full refund once the claim is settled.

  • Fine Art Prints: If a print arrives damaged, please contact the artist within 48 hours of delivery with clear photographs of the packaging and the print itself. A replacement print will be arranged at no additional cost to you.

Colour Accuracy

Due to variations in computer monitor and phone screen displays, the colours of the final artwork may vary slightly from the digital image viewed online. Returns or refunds will not be granted due to minor colour variations.

Dispatch/Delivery

The term 'dispatched' or 'delivery' refers to the point when the artwork is handed over to the courier/postal service.

5. How to Initiate a Return
